it's been so long.
Excellent New York Times article on the show, including some feckin' awesome new good news about the Season 2 DVD release... (it's not spoilery, so go for it)

It blows my mind to think that the show's been off since December. I mean, it's not as though I haven't noticed, or felt it, but still... it's kind of astonishing... because since the start of the show, there's been more hiatus than there's been broadcast. And being a member of the fan community means that it's never too far from my thoughts (in fact, it's very frequently on my mind; I'm sure think about Heroes as often as guys supposedly think about sex...) and I've started just randomly popping the DVDs in, watching an episode here and there. (Yesterday I watched the beginning of "Nothing To Hide", but I had to leave the house before we got to the Petrelli Family Brunch. This week I plan to watch "Six Months Ago" again, for the Gabriel Gray jollies, floating Nate, Peter's slash-tastic, gay-DJ, wine-soaked party, and the Haitian pwning all.) I haven't marathoned Season 1 since last summer, and I still haven't gotten around to re-watching my VHS tapes of Season 2 because VHS is just kind of a drag, especially the internet-distracted, always-cooking-or-pet-grooming way I watch... so I'm just going to hang in there until the S2 DVD comes out. I'm going to keep my eyes open for any kind of special retailer deals, so I can avoid the excitement and expense of the S1 release, where I ended up buying two different editions. I don't know if they're going to do that again for this one; they should, I think, as an incentive to get people to buy it; we're nerds, we'll buy multiple editions. Really. C'mon.

I am so jealous of the people going to San Diego ComicCon that it's actually made me physically ill for the last week (well, that, and a resurgence of grief for a friend who died five years ago, and other friends being out of town, and general frustration at my lack of money/responsibility/drive). If you are going, let me know - I may have a special mission for you, for which I am willing and happy to pay you.

On an unrelated note, I'm very annoyed with myself for missing Milo's birthday. So happy belated birthday, Milo. I'm really crap at keeping up with my Heroes Holiday schedule. Good thing nobody cares about it but me. ^_^

Happy Charlie's Birthday!... and on Arthur Petrelli
Happy birthday, Charlie Andrews. April showers; it's been stormin' all week. Let's all give Hiro-kun a sympathetic fictional hug.
....
Working, slowly, on Ritual 39. I am having unexpected difficulties deciding on POV, chronological setting, and whether or not I want it to turn into a longer, semi-drawn-out tale that's as much about Peter and Nathan's relationship with their father as it is about their relationship with each other.

It's not as though the former approach is a problem, but if I can't find a parallel between the two subjects, I ought to drop the parent/child Petrelli dynamic and concentrate on the brothers. There's plenty enough going on there in this story as it is (perhaps, even, too much). (And do I really want to write another 11,000 word fic? How many people have the patience to sit through that?)

This is an issue that I might have forseen last year, back when Ritual started growing in scope and complexity - as I go along, writing them becomes much harder work. I guess this is just something I do to myself; of course I could just write a simple, straightforward quick dash of smut, but other (cool) ideas keep crowding their way into my mind, and I then have to make decisions about what stays and what goes.

I am dying to write about Arthur Petrelli, if only because I'm dying to know him. Who is this guy, really? "War Buddies" gives a hint of how he was when he was in Vietnam (strict, slightly sentimental, lacking in superstition, get-the-job-done, harsh, unafraid to kill in the line of duty but not exactly bloodthirsty either, but also with a streak of cruelty) and we know he looks more or less almost exactly like the adult Nathan (thank you, Jason Badower; you're my favorite webcomics artist!). But there are so many unanswered questions, and Arthur Petrelli is as central to the mythology of Heroes as Chandra Suresh, Thompson, Linderman, or Kaito Nakamura – perhaps even more so.

But for me (and other fic writers in the fandom, especially Petrelli-lovers), it's also very personal. How did he interact with Nathan? With Peter? With Angela? (Yeah, seriously, what was going on there?) With the other members of the Company? I really, really wish they'd give us some canon on the show to work with, but I can't tell if they're going to go in that direction at all in their haste to give us lots of tasty supervillains. (Or maybe Arthur is one of those supervillains?...)

We need flashbacks (and hell, cast Adrian in the role; powder up his hair, slap some Buddy Holly glasses on him, and let him bust out his thespian chops) and we need them now. DAMN YOU, HIATUS.

oh, that's what's important about March 20th!
I am such a tool - I missed an important Heroes Holiday!

On March 20th, 2007 - THE VIRUS WAS RELEASED!

...or it wasn't! Yay Peter! :/

*shakes head in dismay* For cripe's sake, I've got the dates listed on my own damn blog. I win at life. Except not.

In other irrelevancy news, last night I had what I believe is my very first Heroes dream... I dreamed in extremely vivid detail (to the degree that I had to spend the ten minutes between my alarm going off and my actually being able to get out of bed telling myself that it hadn't actually happened) that Peter was actually Linderman's son. Angela told Peter about it in more detail than Peter actually wanted (turning away, clapping his hands over his ears, yelling for her to shut up because he didn't want to know about it) and Nathan stood by, wearing that uncomfortable stinkface that he gets (see: Simone's visit to his campaign office, threatening to take the existence of Specials public... you know the look I mean). I blame this all on reading a report from the UK Heroes con that happened last week, and Cristine Rose saying that she speculates that Peter is Linderman's. Ha! She doesn't know! I shall disregard this as idle speculation on the level of enhanced abilities being caused by Midi-Chlorians - that was a long time ago, far far away, y'ken?

(Obviously my mood is better. Better living through chemistry. Ritual 37 coming soonish.)

one more Heroes Holiday: Masi's birthday!
Which I completely spaced on for some reason. (Oh, because the holidays, and how much my life has sucked for the last several days.) December 27! He's 33 now. Ahhh, Masi-kun, my dear sweet fantasy ex-husband, have a happy.

sorry, pete
I am a big enough nerd to feel really bad that I missed celebrating Peter's canonical birthday on December 23... so now he's 28, and really ought to learn to think for himself, don'tcha think? ^_^

Happy birthday, angel of my heart. I love you beyond all reason.

the day it all went down: November 7, 2006
On this day last year, around midnight, shortly after election results were posted, naming Nathan Petrelli as the new Congressman of the 11th District, residents of New York City and surrounding areas were astonished to see a brilliant blossom of orange and yellow fire flare in the night sky. Oddly enough, official news reports of an explanation are still being worked on at this time, as well as a verification of the circumstances surrounding Petrelli's mysterious landslide victory (but complete failure to take office or serve his elected duty), but are expected to go live Monday, November 12th 2007, at 9 P.M.

If you're anything like me, you eagerly await resolution of this astronomical conundrum. Comedy beards optional.

happy Hiro Jumpday
It's October 2... a year to the day after Hiro jumped off the subway home (drunk?...) and into Times Square.

Raise your arms and say "Yatta!" at least once today (although, technically, you should do that on November 8, but it's just never a bad time to raise your arms and say "Yatta!" It's good for the circulation).
